NOW Updated Twice Monthly!

*The update period for the Lode, Placer and New Mining Claims map layers is on average every 15 days. These layers are updated on the first Federal work day of each month and the 15th of each month or the first Federal workday following if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday.

The volunteers at Land Matters strive to update the mining claims information within 24 hours of the mining claims data becoming available from the BLM. You can always find when the most recent update was by scrolling all the way to the right of the table in any claims information window

BLM LR2000 Mining Claims Map Layers

These maps represent the Mining Claims found in the BLM LR2000 database at the time the map was updated.* Current information on each claim on these maps can be found by Clicking on the "Click for current BLM report" in the Information Result window. This link runs a current report on the BLM LR2000 database of claim case files and produces a live Serial Register page for the selected claim. This is the most current mining claims information available on the internet. Only the first page of the Serial Register is displayed. To see the whole report you may need to click the "PDF" button at the top of the returned Serial Register page.

There are four types of mining claims represented on the mining claims maps.

Placer Claims

Placer mining claims are represented as bright Orange lines around a Section where there are ACTIVE status mining claims located. The number of Placer Claims within the Section is displayed as Red text as you zoom in to the area.

When using the " i " Information tool clicking within a Section containing any of the selected claims layers will produce a list of the claims with more information on each claim and a link to the current BLM Serial Register Page for that particular claim.

Lode, Millsite and Tunnel Site Claims

Lode, Millsite and Tunnel Site claims are represented as bright Blue lines around a Section where there are ACTIVE status Lode, Millsite or Tunnel Site claims located. The number of Lode, Millsite or Tunnel Site Claims within the Section is displayed as Blue text as you zoom in to the area.

When using the " i " Information tool clicking within a Section containing any of the selected claims layers will produce a list of the claims with more information on each claim and a link to the current BLM Serial Register Page for that particular claim.

New Claims

This new map layer represents the Sections that have had Mining Claims added to the BLM's ACTIVE mining case file list over the last update period (approximately a 15 day period).

When using the " i " Information tool clicking within a Section containing any of the selected claims layers will produce a list of the claims with more information on each claim and a link to the current BLM Serial Register Page for that particular claim.

The New Claims map layer content changes twice a month. In some report periods your State BLM may not have added any new ACTIVE mining claims to the database. Check back often to see changes in your area of interest.

This map layer is best viewed initially with a minimal set of layers. The new claims Sections will be very obvious on a plain white map or an aerial background. The larger lines of the New Claims layer will be less obvious if the mining claims or PLSS layers are displayed.

Although there is some correlation between "New" claims displayed on this map layer and actual new claims on the ground there can be a considerable lapse in time between events on the ground and what the recent status of a BLM mining case file is. The information provided here is only offered as one of many research tools. Your due diligence is still required before making decisions about land status for any particular area of interest.
